Former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney plans to join the board of New York-based Acreage Holdings, becoming the latest political heavyweight affiliated with the multistate marijuana company.
Mulroney – prime minister from 1984 to 1993 – will join a board stacked with political and corporate veterans, including:
Former U.S. House Speaker John Boehner.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld.
IBM’s former chief financial officer, Douglas Maine.
Former CEO of TW Telecom (formerly Time Warner Telecom), Larissa Herda.
Acreage Holdings has plans to go public on the Canadian Securities Exchange through the reverse takeover (RTO) of Applied Inventions Management.
The former prime minister will join Acreage in November, upon the close of the RTO, the company said in a press release.
Mulroney also joins a growing list of former heads of state in the international cannabis industry.
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak joined Herzliya-based licensed medical cannabis company Intercure as chairman of its board of directors.
John Turner, who had a short term as Canada’s prime minister in 1984, backed a failed medical cannabis company in 2014.
